RCA Australia was established in 1994 and comprises four specialist consulting groups that provide services for a diverse range of requirements.

RCA Australia is an employee-owned company comprising approximately 40 full-time staff including engineers, scientists, geologists and technicians. Through the diversity of services within the RCA business groups we are able to provide integrated solutions that minimize costs whilst producing a high quality solution that meets your needs.

NATA Accreditation is held and maintained for RCA’s Construction Materials Testing (CMT) laboratory.

MEET THE LEADERSHIP TEAM

BOB CARR

Director and Principal Geotechnical Engineer

Bob (centre) founded RCA Australia in 1994 and has 40 years of experience in geotechnical engineering and consulting. Bob’s key areas of expertise include geotechnical site investigation and analysis and investigation of road and rail formation/pavements. He is experienced in stability analysis, foundation analysis and design and materials assessment.

Bob has worked on investigation and design for many major transport projects in NSW in previous years such as the Karuah to Buladelah Pacfic Highway Upgrade, Woolgooga to Glenugie Pacific Highway Upgrade and the Coffs Harbour Bypass.

He has completed lectureships at The University of Newcastle and TAFE NSW, teaching local engineering students.

Bob is proud of RCA Australia’s growth and success over the years.  He is delighted to have achieved 30 years in business in 2024, a wonderful milestone.

 

MARK ALLMAN

Managing Director and Geotechnical Services Manager 

Mark (left) has 40 years experience in geotechnical consulting and engineering research. Joining RCA in 2002, he has worked with clients across a varying range of industries, such as government, transport, mining, rail and ports.  He has key experience in a wide range of laboratory testing and interpretation, computer software development for data reduction and presentation and investigation. He is experienced in analysis and reporting for embankments, dams, foundations, wharfs and road works.

Mark’s engineering research interests include have included offshore foundations for oil platforms, laboratory testing methods, the behaviour of cemented soils, the modelling of soft clays, centrifuge modelling, foundations on reactive soil, unsaturated soil mechanics and embankments on soft ground. Mark has published over 30 technical papers and has been an invited speaker at various conferences over many years.

Mark is pleased with the fact RCA has employed and mentored many local engineers and technicians at the commencement of their careers.

 

ALEX REES

General Manager and Acoustics Manager

Alex (right) joined the RCA Australia board in 2019 and has since stepped into the role of General Manager. Alex also manages the Acoustics department at RCA Australia and continues to enjoy technical involvement in a large variety of projects. Alex’s consulting background includes preparing Noise and Vibration Impact Assessments for industrial, transport and construction projects. He has also worked with architects and developers to design spaces including residential apartments, art galleries, government offices and stadium refurbishments.

Alex has been a casual academic at the University of Newcastle since 2019 where he enjoys contributing to a 3rd year Environmental Science course by providing a lecture and workshop on the topic of “Noise Impact Assessment”. He believes that preparing students for industry is both important and a privilege. Alex has also been a Non-Executive Director of a Newcastle charity called Reach Homeless Services since 2018. He is very proud of the impact this small charity has had in Newcastle and Maitland, providing support and dignity to vulnerable members of our community.
